Michael Keaton is set to reprise his roll as Batman. The news was revealed by Walter Hamada, president of DC Films, in an interview with The New York Times.

Batman Again
Michael Keaton, who famously played the Caped Crusader in Tim Burton’s Batman (1989) and Batman Returns (1992), will be back for The Flash film set to be released in 2022. The Flash will also feature Ben Affleck, who claims the film will be his last time as the character. A third actor set to play the role in 2022 is Robert Pattinson, who will star in The Batman, directed by Matt Reeves. The Batman was originally meant to come out this year but has been pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Different Universes
According to Hamada the current DCEU, featuring the crew that was in Justice League, exist in a separate universe from films like Robert Pattinson’s Batman. However The Flash is meant to serve as a link between the two universes. The film will also apparently reveal what has happened to Keaton’s Batman since his last appearance in Batman Returns.
There are also rumors that Keaton could be involved in future DCEU films, with appearances similar to how Samual L. Jackson’s Nick Fury pops up in the Marvel films. Fans are also speculating about the possibility of a Batman Beyond film or a Dark Knight Returns inspired movie staring Keaton.
Production to Begin Soon
The Flash is set to begin production in April. Currently Ezra Miller, Michael Keaton, Ben Affleck, and Billy Crudup are the only cast members announced.
