**Warning - Spoilers Ahead**

If you’ve been keeping up with the Mandalorian’s second season on Disney+, you won’t be disappointed by the season finale.

Din Djarin, or Mando, has been an instant classic in the Star Wars fandom. The majority of fans love it, and the direction of the show serves most any Star Wars fan. Season two had us traveling a galaxy far far away with Mando and the child (Grogu) in search of a Jedi who could help harness and train Grogu’s natural force ability. Through the course of the second season, we’ve met up with icons new and old.

In the season 2 finale, we’re welcomed with Mando and Boba Fett finding Bo’Katan in a cantina to ask for help confronting Moff Gideon. While leading into the episode, fans were unsure about what Jedi would return Grogu’s call, the end of the episode clears that up with the appearance of a familiar robotic hand. Luke returns to save the thrown-together crew from a small army of Dark Troopers. Luke’s body is portrayed by Max Lloyd-Jones, however, the face of Luke is a CGI Mark Hamill.

Fans are left with a heartbreaking goodbye between Grogu and Mando, who takes his helmet off to look at Grogu for the first time with his own eyes. However, the real hype-train comes once the credits are over and fans are left with an exciting announcement.

In the post-credit scene, we see Boba Fett return to Jabba’s castle with Fennec Shand to take out (almost) every living thing in the place. Once that task is completed Fett sits on the thrown, drink in hand, and Fennec at his side. Immediately after, fans are met with a screen that says “The Book of Boba Fett” Coming December 2021”.

What is The Book of Boba Fett?

Well… that isn’t exactly clear yet. Disney didn’t announce it at their investor’s meeting, instead opting to leave it to be announced in the post-credits. However, a Boba Fett something has been in the works for quite a while. When Disney began releasing their sequel trilogy in 2015, the rumor mill started swirling with Fett’s return to the big screen.

It seemed that after a less than great box office return with Solo we may not get a Boba Fett standalone anything when Disney seemingly shied away from spin-offs of original Star Wars content, however that’s all changed with the Mandalorian becoming a fan-favorite. So will The Book of Boba Fett be a standalone season? A movie? A series? Unfortunately, for the time being, that’s a lingering question.

Other Star Wars Announcements

Earlier this month, Disney held investor day and used the opportunity to announce a number of new Star Wars series. It seems that at this point, Disney is planning about ten new series in the next few years.

  • The Acolyte

While details about The Acolyte are sparse, we do know that it’s a mystery thriller set in the Old Republic. This has, of course, led to rumors of Darth Plagueis which are unsubstantiated. This project is headed by Lesly Headland, Co-creator of Russian doll, a Netflix original series.

  • A new Star Wars movie

We know almost nothing about this new movie, and we all know how under-wraps Disney likes to keep new Star Wars releases. We do know, however, that Taika Waititi, writer and director of Jojo Rabbit, will be attached. Waititi is no stranger to the Star Wars Universe, he directed the first episode of the second season of Mandalorian, The Redemption.

  • Rogue Squadron

The next movie installment in the Star Wars franchise will be Rogue Squadron directed by Patty Jenkins. This will be a historic first for the franchise as she’ll be the first woman to direct a feature film under the Star Wars name.

  • A Droid Story

With all of the exciting live-action news, there is also a handful of animated series coming to Disney+. A Droid story will feature R2-D2 and C-3PO in a Disney+ movie.

  • Lando

It is speculated that Donald Glover will reprise his role as Lando Calrissian as the lead in the upcoming “event series” Lando. While it isn’t confirmed that Glover will play Lando, it is expected that he will. Justin Simien, of Dear White People, is also attached to the series.

  • Star Wars: Visions

Visions is an animated anthology series that will be produced in an anime-style with ten different Japanese studios.

  • Andor

Andor is a highly anticipated Rogue One prequel series. Diego Luna will return as Cassian Andor, an enemy of the empire, to lead the show. Andor is expected to premiere in 2022.

  • The Bad Batch

Another animated show, The Bad Batch, will serve as a sequel to the Clone Wars series. The show will follow a group of clones after the events of the Clone Wars.

  • Obi-Wan Series

Perhaps as anticipated as Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi is finally making a come-back. Both Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen are attached to play Obi-Wan and Vader respectively. It is thought that the Obi-Wan series will be standalone, but that has neither been confirmed nor denied by Disney.

  • Rangers of the New Republic

This series will be another animated show. There is little information, but a lot of speculation surrounding this one.

  • Ashoka Series

Fans have been long asking for an Ashoka live-action series, and it looks like they’ll be getting one. Ahsoka will be based in the Mandalorian’s timeline and will have Rosaria Dawson as the lead.

Mandalorian Season 3

Fans are highly anticipating all of the new Star Wars spinoffs, and Mandalorian is one of them. The Mandalorian will return in December of 2021 on Christmas Day. At this time, it remains somewhat unclear whether or not The Book of Boba Fett will continue to cross paths with Din Djarin, but we sure hope it does. Either way, we’re all glad to be getting more of Boba Fett and Mando whether it be separately or intertwined. Let us know in the comments which series/movie you’re most excited about!
