December, 8th will go down in the history books as the day that the first person gets a Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.

Who Was That Someone?

Margaret Keenan is her name, she’s 90 years old, and a grandmother who lives in London. She’s the first person to get a non-trial COVID-19 vaccine at 6:31 am (UTC+00:00) one week before her birthday. While this could be a historic day, it will most definitely be a memorable one for her.

“I feel so privileged to be the first person vaccinated against Covid-19…It’s the best early birthday present I could wish for because it means I can finally look forward to spending time with my family and friends in the New Year after being on my own for most of the year.”

The World Will Watch

The world will be watching on edge as Britain rolls out their first mass-vaccination program, which targets those over eighty years old, those in long-term care, and health professionals. For the first week, Britain plans to roll out 800,000 of its 40 million ordered Pfizer vaccinations. Though 40 million vaccinations have been ordered by the British government, every person requires two injections, which means that order will cover just under a third of the British population.

Though there is skepticism of the vaccine in circles, especially in the United States, that skepticism is met with joy and hope from millions eagerly awaiting their turn. Many will be waiting with anticipation to see if the long term effects of the vaccine are positive.
