Capitol Building is Stormed During Electoral Vote Certification

Demonstrators have stormed the capitol building while members of Congress were voting on certifying electoral votes. This is a breaking story and will be continuously updated.

- This morning members of congress gathered to vote on whether or not to certify electoral votes. Doing so would be the final nail in the coffin for Trump's opposition to Biden securing the presidency.


- Voting to certify electoral votes is normally treated as somewhat of a formality by members of congress.


- There were about a dozen Republican members of congress who were opting to oppose certifying the electoral college votes.


- Demonstrators and Protesters were scheduled to gather for a rally today. Protesters came from all over the country to attend this event where the president spoke.


- Mike Pence stated that he would not vote to overturn the election and released a statement letter from his Twitter account. (Statement Below)


- Mitch McConnell, the Senate Majority leader, also issued a statement saying he splitting from his support of Trump's opposition. (Statement Below)


- As ralliers began storming the Capitol, Vice President Mike Pense was evacuated from the building.


- Some demonstrators have made their way into the Capitol building.


- There have been reports of tear gas being used in and outside of the building.


- Members of Congress were given gas masks and have taken cover.


- There have been reports of gunfire and tear gas inside of the Capitol building.


- Trump turned on Mike Pence in a Twitter statement because of Pence's declining to support the president's opposition in the legislature. (Tweet Below)

- Virginia and Maryland Governors are sending National Guard to Washington DC


- 1 Trump supporter has been shot and later died from injuries.
